Mr Rongyu Li
Areas of responsibility
As acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (External Engagement), Mr Li is responsible for leading the University's overall engagement strategy, with a particular focus on expanding the quality and scale of domestic and international engagement with prospective students, industry, government, alumni and Aboriginal and Torres-Strait Islander communities. The position works collaboratively with all UQ portfolios to develop, articulate and sustain a shared vision of engagement.
Biography
Rongyu is an outstanding leader in the fields of international education and Higher Education administration. Prior to joining UQ, Rongyu was the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Students and Partnerships at the University of Canberra. He has also held leadership roles at RMIT University (Executive Director, International), Deakin University (Executive Director, Deakin International), Auckland University of Technology (Director, International) and the University of South Australia (Head of International and Marketing, Faculty of Health Sciences).
In these roles Rongyu has overseen global student recruitment and admissions, marketing and communications, transnational education programs, student support services, student administration, strategic planning and business intelligence and analysis. He has also implemented transformational change to improve the student experience from enquiry to alumni.
Rongyu’s contribution to the higher education sector extends beyond these roles. He has contributed significantly to International Education Strategies at Federal, State and Municipality levels as well as leading the development and implementation of Strategic and Operational Plans at institutional level. He was, for many years an Executive member of the Australian International Directors Forum (AUIDF), a current Executive member of the Universities Australia DVC/PVC International Group and the longest-serving board member of International Education Association of Australia (IEAA).
