Confucius Classrooms to support language and culture

7 Nov 2014

Being a first of five classrooms to be opened within the Confucius Institute at UQ network, the opening ceremony marked and important step for both the Institute and Lourdes Hill College. The classrooms aim to both support Chinese language learning opportunities for high school students and allow them to experience Chinese culture through activities and events.

The Confucius Institute at UQ has in recent years developed important relationships with Queensland schools. The establishment of Confucius classrooms aims to strengthen the interest in language learning in the state and complement the recent recognition of the results of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

A key part of the Confucius Institute at UQ’s role is to contribute to the Queensland community through academic and cultural engagement. The Confucius classroom network will develop through Brisbane, western and northern Queensland in the coming years providing students with better opportunities to develop their skills in relation to language and culture.
