UQ lecturer to join elite young Sinologists to China

Dr Will Gatherer,  School of Languages and Cultures (SLC) Lecturer in Chinese translation within the Master of Arts in Chinese Translation & Interpreting (MACTI) program at The University of Queensland was successful in his application for a Chinese Government-sponsored research opportunity in China.

On the recommendation and support of Professor Ping Chen, Director of the Confucius Institute at The University of Queensland, Dr. Gatherer will undertake fellowship travel sponsored by the Chinese Government to attend the 2017 Visiting Program for Young Sinologists, a program jointly run by the Culture Ministry of China and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

This is an annual program open to sinologists around the world to attend a range of activities in China, including lectures from prominent figures within Sinology, designed to promote future academic exchange and research. The program also aims promote a stronger understanding of China as well as connections to other scholars in similar fields.

Dr Gatherer, an already highly experienced lecturer and researcher in translation and interpretation, will have increased access to key Chinese universities and academics as part of the 2017 program scheduled for September in Beijing.
